As far as I can tell, I'm bound to learn a great deal from this course. Though I've been a poetry fan for years, I've never taken a class completed devoted to the art. It may turn out that I don't understand poetry as well as I thought, which is a little unnerving. At any rate, the nature of the class is what I'm most excited about. I like the idea of the classroom as a forum where thoughts can truly flow, where students are actually in engaged with one another in a growing environment. Too many people my age, younger, and older brush off the words of poets as a kind of dead language. Really, it is completely relevant to any one of our lives. It's not so abstract once you really think about it, and I trust that we will all learn all sorts of invaluable things about life, ourselves, and poetry this semester.
